We Got a Thing Goin’ On!

WHAT a GREAT day for a ride! Blue skies, high white clouds, temp is down to 90 degrees, and traffic seems to be temporarily light. Even though it was just to run a few errands, I couldn’t stop grinning. I. LOVE. THIS. TRIKE.

When I was riding on two wheels, I was never comfortable riding alone. I mean – people didn’t see me when I was driving a mom-van! Is it any wonder they run motorcycles off the road?!?! Crazy, distracted, impatient, rude, and oblivious drivers (a rant for another day) meant that I preferred to ride, almost exclusively, with friends. Like Arizona’s much loved wild horses, running in a herd (or riding in a group) is a matter of visibility, safety, and support.

Nellie, though, (my trike) has a presence. I don’t stress about riding alone. We get noticed. The Harley FLRT is sleek and sporty, not a mobile lounge chair. And her tan leather seat adds a touch of class topping off the black tins. One of these days, I’ll get her pinstriped with yellow roses (mom’s favorite), but that’s for a future budget.

With three wheels, of course her stance is wider. She isn’t made for sharing a lane! But beyond that, I always get reactions from other drivers: the guy who rolls down the window of his pickup truck to give me a nod and a thumbs up, the high school girls yelling out the car window, “YOU’RE SO COOL! I want to be you when I get older!” Um… thanks? Ha!

Today was a couple of crew members at KFC outside on a smoke break, ogling Nellie as I came out the door after lunch. “Oh! Is this your trike? I wondered about your gloves…” (pink with skulls and roses) “when I took your order!” Yep. More than just a fashion statement.

My husband has always said, “You have to find the bike that speaks to you.” Apparently, my bike is a trike. And we got a thing goin’ on!

Ladies: Do you have a bike/trike that you love? Want to share some of those thoughts that are rolling around in your head? Post your comment – or message me. I’d love to talk! Maybe get some ladies together to ride!
